It's the Apocalyptour!

It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel totally awesome! This is probably because I watched the Dikrats save Earth from being taken over by the Apocalypse at the hands of the Mayan Deity…Margaret.

When Team Starkid announced the date we could purchase tickets for their second tour, I jumped on the opportunity, not because I wanted to compete for the Crystal Skull or Golden Idol VIP tickets, but because I wanted to guarantee myself a ticket. Missing the Space Tour was a definite bummer, so, when the time came, I was one of the ones refreshing the Live Nation page over and over in excitement and anxiousness.

Leading up to the show, I watched literally NO spoilers. I consider this quite a feat considering heaps of videos were around, especially when Darren joined. That was the real test: Kris vs. Darren’s knee-highs. I won. Seriously.

My friends and I made it through the shit show that was Silver Spring’s traffic while blasting music and somehow catching the attention of the Starkids in the car next to us, who were waving their hands in pre-concert elation.

Instead of waiting in the line that wrapped around the building, we chilled until everyone was in the Fillmore and then strolled in. We were in the back with all the awkward Dads, but it gave us loads of breathing room.

So, I was as excited for Charlene Kaye as I was for Team Starkid. She was a great opener for the show, mostly high energy, but able to command the audience well through her ballads too. I missed the very beginning because I was buying merchandise, but I was so happy with the songs she chose to sing. I loved that Apocalyptour had a plot to it, one that was cleverly executed and concluded in an interesting way for the finale. Lighting was perfect, and the costumes were delightfully explorer-chic - as in… so bland it was hysterical and perfect.

What I was most impressed with was that the Apocalyptour wasn’t just a re-hashing of old songs in a live setting, but rather a renewal of those old classics amidst the new. The arrangements made everything a new experience. My favorite was the joining of “Sami” from Little White Lie and “Harry” from A Very Potter Musical, sung by Dylan Saunders and Jaime Lyn Beatty.

For the first time ever, I stayed after a show to attempt to meet the stars. Some of the Starkids went on to the hotel, but a few stayed to meet the fans. I got signature from Joey Richter, Jim Povolo, Jaime Lyn Beatty, Brian Holden, and Brian Rosenthal, as well as pictures with most of the above mentioned. Jaime was so sweet. She complimented the necklace I had been wearing and asked what was written on it. She’s really good about getting the fans to open up. Awesome for me because my feeling star struck was the reason I have no picture with Joey Richter. He came right over to us and I just stood there herpityderping away.

It was a great night, even though my post-concert headache lasted 2 days. I loved every second, so the headache was worth it.
