Spyder Hunting

I am a competitive person.

I like being in the first row of an audience, or at least close. I like knowing things others don’t know yet. I like sharing, but I also like keeping some things especially close to my heart. I like having physical representations of my experiences, and I like collecting set lists and guitar picks, of which there are, unfortunately, so few to go around.

On my vacation last week, I saw Pat Benatar and Neil “Spyder” Giraldo perform at the American Music Theater in Lancaster, PA. Framing the show were stories about their lives and the songs they created together, and it was special to be able to go behind the music. For their fans, this was probably old information, but for someone like me who only knew them for the music alone, it was really special.

Together, the husband and wife music duo puts on a rockin’ show. Their long-time fans actually stood from their seats and danced with the music. This is fairly rare for the American Music Theater because it's more of a sit-in-your-seat-and-enjoy kind of venue. At the encore, everyone was standing, and a large crowd was gather in the front of the aisles.

During the show, there were instances where Neil Giraldo threw his guitar picks out to the crowd. I absolutely love when this is a thing because I adore guitar picks. They are such a bold symbol. So, I collect them, or use them in decorating, or sometimes wear them as jewelry. They are my favorite souvenir from a show.

I've had lots of practice spotting them too because of Dublin 5 shows.

So when a Spyder guitar pick ended up on the floor near the 5th row, probably about 6-8 rows in front of me, I of course didn't let it linger there for too long.

Guys. Look at this beauty.
