Something Has Changed Within Me

Something is not the same...

Because I finally saw Wicked live.

Wicked has been a part of my life for a long time without me ever having seen the Broadway show.

When I was in college, I discovered a live acoustic album by Idina Menzel which included stripped-down versions of her songs from the musical, including the iconic "Defying Gravity." That album remains one of my favorites.

At some point in college, I procured the Broadway original soundtrack for the show and listened through multiple times, though I was unfamiliar with the story. This changed maybe two years ago now when I finished the reading the book and could start putting everything together.

My mom bought tickets for us around Christmastime for this past April at the Hippodrome theater in Baltimore. The show was even better than I expected, and our seats were in the third row from the stage. It was easy to become immersed and finally everything I knew about the show slotted into place, story and music thriving together.

And now, having seen it, I understand so much more. I see how perfect the original cast was for the show, and the book, which could be dense in sections, makes much more sense now.

For years, I feel like I'd been dancing around the opportunity to see the show, and now that it has happened, I feel like this part of my life is complete.

Except I kind of want to see it again, because, hello - it's Wicked!
